The Tour prototype Billet Block Copper (BBC) starts out as a 10-pound block of copper and ends up just under one pound. Many features distinguish this Classic design; the “ears” in the cavity where the path of the mill cuts the pocket, following the contour of the topline, to the classic weight bumps, which are soft, round, and flowing, creating the look of a teardrop. The deep well pocket and the wider Beach slot, from the design and material, give it the sound, which select players prefer. The sound slot on the BBC is inside the pocket but behind the face and hidden from view due to the flat topline. To give it that Classic look the hosel is rounded, but the design has a flat front, where the barrel of the hosel and hosel meet, so the putter is easy to align. Notice the chamfer on the top of the barrel, which is also a classic look from days past. The initial 36 BBC putters will have Classic markings from my days prior to Titleist and a tribute to classic design. The BBC will be tested on Tour in 2004 so look to see different variations.
